Matthew R Stankus Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2021 in memory of Matthew Stankus, Cherry Hill High School West Class of 2019.  

Matthew was involved in multiple extracurricular activities throughout his high school career, including the Boys Swimming Team and the Band.  He proudly and quietly did whatever was needed for the betterment of the group.  Matthew shied away from the individual spotlight but loved being a part of the teams and extracurricular groups.  He was diagnosed with cancer during the fall of his Senior year.  

As a result of his treatments he was unable to enroll in college, which was something that Matthew valued a great deal.  When Matthew passed away, after a stoic two and a half year battle with cancer, this scholarship was established to honor his contributions to the West community and to reward a student for following in Matthew’s footsteps throughout his or her high school career.

Each year, a Cherry Hill High School West graduating senior receives a $5000 scholarship in memory of Matthew.
